Money just doesn’t go as far as it used to. Gas is too expensive, groceries too expensive… dying… too expensive. When we die, we understand that our assets will be passed on to our loved ones. They shall inherit our bounty. Yet if we do it wrong, they get less, and it takes eons for the assets to get where they are supposed to go. Worst of all…. it costs lots of money to get them there.
As they say… there is a right way and wrong to do everything. If you die without a will and trust, your estate will need to be probated. Even If you die with only a will, your estate will need to be probated. The problem is that probate costs lots of money, time, and effort.
Trusts pass on assets without court involvement, without public involvement, and without all the costs associated with probate. A trust simplifies everything.
Maybe you’re saying, “I don’t care, I’ll be dead… let them deal with it.” True, you will be dead, but there are documents needed before you die. If you don’t have them, money may be wasted on dealing with the probate court while you are alive, thus, spending your money and potentially causing you to run out of it before you die.
Powers of Attorney are documents that are created to protect the living. When you are unable to handle your financial decisions, having a financial power of attorney in place can save you money and time. It will also keep the judge out of your business. If you need your financial affairs handled by someone else and you don’t have a power of attorney in place, the court will stick its nose into your finances, causing money to be wasted as a conservator will have to be put in place by the judge. It all costs you money.
Don’t waste your money… put an estate plan in place now while you can.
